Before you start - find financial clarity

Ensure before you spend time with tarot that any balance sheets are updated, that you’ve tidied up your receipts, know all of your debt amounts, and recorded any expenses. It’s important that you know the financial situation in your business and have the clarity because you may even know where financial support is needed before consulting the cards.

When it comes to running my business I ensure that I log things weekly, and I compile all information monthly so that at tax year-end I don’t have to spend days going over every little penny.

I know that this isn’t easy for everyone and that life happens, so maybe invest in some financial software or a financial service provider to reconcile everything for you to save time, stress, and potentially money. If you find yourself in extreme debt, it’s not a tarot reading you need but genuine financial help – please contact a professional to discuss your financial difficulties, such as your bank, financial ombudsman, and financial support charities local to you.

And now we move on to the tarot!

Business money tarot spread layout & questions to ask

To begin, shuffle your tarot deck and draw a card for each position as shown in the below layout.

Finally, take some time to reflect on the questions that each card position represents and what message the tarot cards in that position might be trying to tell you. If you’re just starting to learn tarot, or if you’re still getting to know your deck, you may find my in-depth articles on the meanings of every tarot card helpful.

Tarot Card #1: Financial Foundations, and how to bring more stability

This card lays the financial overview and foundation of your business and can indicate what to lean into to bring more stability to the finances. If you pull The Tower, consider what areas of your business or finances need a complete overhaul. The key with this card is to not be afraid of the destruction that’s necessary to lay a new foundation – it will be worth it in the end! If you pull The Devil, take a look at any debts or financial obligations that might be weighing you down.

This could also be an indication of some unhealthy financial habits that you have, such as overspending or not saving enough. The key with this card is to find a way to break free from these habits so that you can move forward in a more positive direction.

Tarot Card #2: Support with quick cash injections

This is a card for financial incoming support and can indicate how you can get a quick injection of cash into your business. If you pull The Empress, this could be a sign that you need to focus on marketing and promotion in order to bring in more sales.

The key with this card is to make sure that you’re putting yourself and your business out there so that people know that you exist! If you pull The Lovers, this could be an indication that you need to find a financial partner or investor to help support your business.

The key with this card is to make sure that you do your research and find someone who shares your vision and who you can trust. If you pull The Moon, this is a card of intuition and emotion. Trust your gut when it comes to your finances, and don’t let your emotions get the best of you. This is a time to be calm and collected when making financial decisions so that you can make the best choices for your business.

Tarot Card #3: Savings highlighted

This card placement will show you how to save money within the business, and areas to stop spending as highly so that you are giving your outgoings a break.

If you pull the Three of Wands for this placement, it’s time to focus on automating processes, and levelling up, so that you can save time and money. The key to this card is to find ways to streamline your business so that you can free up some cash.

If you pull The Hanged Man, it’s time to take a look at your spending habits and see where you can make sacrifices that may initially feel uncomfortable but long term is for the greater good of your business’s wellbeing.

And if you pull the Seven of Swords, it’s time to get creative with your finances, copy/take inspiration from what your competitors are doing, and see where you can cut corners without impacting the quality of service that you provide.

Tarot Card #4: Balance sheets support

It’s not easy, as I mentioned above, to balance your sheets often and have the operational side of the business running as smoothly as possible, but if you can make it a priority it will save your business in the long run.

If you pull The Sun for this card, it’s a sign that your financial situation is about to get a lot brighter so have faith and hope. This is a time to focus on growth and expansion and to not be afraid to take risks. If you get cards typically from the Pentacles suit, this grounded energy wants you to focus on being methodical, consistent, and putting in the hard work to see results. This is a time to focus on saving money and being frugal with your spending.

It’s a reminder that sometimes it’s ok to take a step back from your business and take some time for yourself. How this will affect the operations and general support of the business is by giving you the time and space to reflect, so that when you do return you can come back with a fresh perspective and new ideas.

Tarot Card #5: Money belief to shed

This card reflects your personal beliefs about money and can articulate why it’s not benefitting your business. It may have been a mindset or tip or process or tool that has greatly helped you in the past, but it is no longer working out for you the way you want it to. If you pull The Tower for this card, it’s a sign that it’s time to let go of any outdated beliefs or ideas about money. This is a time for a change, and to not be afraid of the unknown. The key to this card is to be open to new possibilities and not be afraid of change.

Tarot Card #6: Money mindset to embrace

This final card placement gives you inspiration towards what kind of money mindset you should be embodying to help support your business. If you pull The World, it’s a sign that it’s time to think big, think of community. This is a time for abundance, success, and prosperity. The key to this card is to have faith in yourself and to know that you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to.

Additional gamble; New financial product or project idea

This is a bonus card pull, and a total gamble, so nothing is certain. However… it can indicate a fantastic opportunity for you. This card will provide you with inspiration and fuel your thoughts with a new product or project idea to bring in more money. If you pull cards from the Cups suit, it’s a sign that this new venture will be emotional, and to go with your heart.

If you pull cards from the Pentacles suit, it’s a sign that this new venture will be practical, beautiful & tangible, and to do your research. And if you pull cards from the Swords suit, it’s a sign that this new venture will be for mental wellbeing, and you’ll need to put a lot of clear communication into its launch.

Whatever type of card you pull for this, it is inspiration, and overall you have the final say about how your business is run and the services or products you provide.

What to do after this tarot reading

After you’ve finished a tarot reading, there are a few things you can do in order to reflect on the experience and integrate the insights you gained. Here are some suggestions:

Use a tarot journal to record your findings

Jotting down your thoughts in a tarot journal after reading can be helpful in a few ways. First, it can help you remember the details of your reading later on, such as how you felt at the moment and perhaps your first impressions of what a card meant. Second, it can provide a space for you to process the information you’ve received and explore what it means for you. Third, it can be a way to keep track of your progress over time as you revisit your journal entries and reflect on your journey.

Take a picture of the cards

If you want to remember the position of the cards and what they meant in relation to your questions, take a picture of the spread. This will help you look back on the reading later and review the insights you received. Sometimes, clarity is better acquired after you’ve stepped back from the situation for a little while and had some time to process it.

Some people create Instagram accounts or Pinterest accounts specifically for this, and if you use any of our spreads please tag us @backyardbanshee if you feel comfortable!

Take some time to meditate and reflect

Immediately after a tarot reading, it’s important to take some time to sit with the insights you’ve received. This can be done through proper meditation, visualisation, or simply taking some time to reflect on the reading. It can be helpful to think about what the messages from the cards mean for your life and how you can apply the advice that was given to you. That time can also be used to replenish your energy level and cleanse your tarot deck.

Get a second opinion from a close friend

If you have close friends who also happen to be tarot practitioners, it can be helpful to get their take on your reading. They may be able to offer additional insights or perspectives that you hadn’t considered before. This is also a good way to get feedback on your own interpretation of the cards.

Ensure to ask permission before just blindly sending your cards across in a message and saying “what does this mean to you?” as your friends may not have the energy or have a boundary with this sort of thing – manners cost nothing, and this is especially to note if they are a professional tarot reader who normally gets paid to interpret readings.

Layer your reading with more divination

Why not try adding astrology dice or a pendulum reading to your tarot session? Your intuition will guide you on how to best use these tools, but they can be helpful in providing more clarity around the messages from your tarot reading. We have lots of methods for you to utilise here on the website.

Do the same reading a month later

This is a great way to check in on your progress and see how far you’ve come. It can also be helpful in understanding the cyclical nature of our lives and how our current situation is likely to change over time. This can be especially useful if you’re struggling with a decision or trying to figure out which path to take as to offer suggestions, provide perspective and encourage your confidence to move forward.

At the end of the day, tarot readings are meant to be a helpful tool, not a replacement for your own intuition. The best way to use tarot is to combine the insights you receive with your own understanding of the situation. Trust your gut and follow your heart—the answers you’re looking for will come.
