Crystal Cleansing and Crystal Charging - Witchcraft Basics Last Updated: November 4, 2022 Home > Witchcraft > Crystal Cleansing and Crystal Charging Here at Backyard Banshee we love crystal magic. When it comes to cleansing and charging your crystals, there are many different methods. Some people like to use the light of the moon, while others prefer using running water or even moon water. The frequency with which you cleanse your crystals is entirely up to you. The important thing is that you cleanse and charge your crystals regularly, as they can absorb negative energy from their environment, they can get stagnant for intentions and they can just sometimes feel off. I like to cleanse mine between spellwork, before witches holidays, and before performing divination. This means they are ready to go for when I do want to use them. Table of Contents Quick Cleansing Crystals To cleanse your crystals, ensure they are water safe, and hold them under running water for a few minutes. You can also place them outside during the rain.To cleanse your crystals with sound, ring a bell or use solfeggio frequencies on a playlist with your crystals by a speaker for a while until you intuitively know they’re done.To cleanse your crystals by the moon, place on a windowsill from moon rise for a few hours. It can be particularly potent for new moons, so if you know the exact timing of the new moon that can help you plan.To cleanse your crystals by black salt, place them in a salt bowl and then dust them off onto a sheet of paper that you can place back into the black salt bowl.To cleanse your crystals by the air element or wind, you can simply visualise a cleansing white light over the crystal and blow away the stagnant energy with your breath, or open a window nearby too. Quick Charging Crystals To charge your crystals with the water element, ensure they are water safe crystals, and use a special anointing oil to charge them with intent. To charge your crystals with the fire element, ensure they are heat proof, and lightly pass them over the heat coming from a candle flame. To charge your crystals with the air element, whisper your intention to the crystal to awaken it’s energy. To charge your crystals with the earth element, use master stones such as clear quartz to invigorate and energy boost them.To charge your crystals by the full moon, place on a windowsill or somewhere flat where they can be showered in moon rays and moon bathe for a while. What happens if I don't cleanse my crystals? If you don’t happen to cleanse your crystals before using them for manifestation or spellwork, you may find that the results are not as potent as they could be. That’s not to say they won’t work at all, it’s just if you could have an added advantage to your practice, you’d go for it. This is because negative energy can build up on the surface of crystals, which can block or hinder their ability to absorb and amplify your intention. I advise cleansing your crystals whenever you can, so they are ready to go when you may need them. What happens if I don't charge my crystals? If you haven’t had a chance to charge your crystal before using them in your craft, it’s possible there is not a direct conduit for the energy you’re channeling. There are different ways to use energy in spell work, but if you’re using crystals, it’s beneficial to have them be amplifiers for your intention. This way, you can use less energy and get more results. If you aren’t using your crystals for a period of time, and they’re just out for display versus metaphysical purpose, you don’t have anything to worry about. If you have the opportunity to cleanse and charge them every now and then, it will help to keep their energy fresh, but it’s not always necessary. The real power will always be from yourself. Who can use crystals in their practice? Crystals are not a closed practice – anyone can use them, but I do have to say one thing. Being mindful to go for ethically sourced, from reputable crystal sellers, is important. There have always been stories in the news about people being sold fake crystals, or being scammed out of their money, and sometimes they’re mined in a way that hurts not only the environment but the people who labour to get you that £2 piece of ocean jasper. So, just be mindful and do your research before purchasing crystals. I’ve mentioned it before and I’ll mention it again – rocks you find on your daily commute, pebbles from places you’ve visited that have significant value to you, and river stones that look really pretty – they’re all just as important in your craft. Famous People who use Crystals It’s not just witches who feel the pull from working with crystals. Here’s a short list of well known names that have been quoted publicly to confirm they use crystal energy in their life;Megan FoxOprah WinfreyKate HudsonAdeleGisele BundchenKaty PerryDavid & Victoria BeckhamSpencer PrattPatrick SwayzeAndy WarholWhen working with crystals, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, it’s great to cleanse and charge your crystals regularly. Second, be mindful of which crystals you are using for which intention – some crystals are easier to obtain and can do the job, so you don’t need that triple price tag crystal if a clear quartz can do it. Finally, have fun and experiment – there are no rules when it comes to working with crystals, other than safety first, so go with your intuition and see what feels right for you.
