What to do for the Lions Gate Portal?

In my article about the Lions Gate background I share lots of ritual ideas for manifestation, but here are some more ideas of activities to try, and of course – I recommend reading tarot.

  1. Creative Journaling: Use the power of words to unleash your creativity! Start a journal where you freely express your thoughts, dreams, and emotions. Let your imagination run wild as you write stories, poems, or even create your own affirmations. This practice will help you align with the fierce and confident spirit of Leo.
  2. Candle Magick: Light a beautiful gold or orange candle during the Lions Gate Portal and Leo Season. As the flame dances, envision it as a representation of your inner fire and strength. Write down your desires on a piece of paper, and as you burn it with the candle, release your intentions to the universe, trusting that the fiery energy of Leo will propel them forward.
  3. Passion Projects: Leo Season calls for embracing your passions fully! Dive into a creative project or hobby that sets your heart on fire. Whether it’s painting, dancing, writing music, or any other pursuit, let the joy of creation fill your spirit and fuel your sense of empowerment.
  4. Astrology Study: Delve into the wisdom of astrology during Leo Season. Learn about your birth chart, zodiac signs, and how they interact with the energies of the Lions Gate Portal. Understanding the cosmic influences at play can deepen your connection with the universe and empower you to make informed decisions.
  5. Celestial Bathing: Turn your bath into a celestial experience! Add some dandelion, lavender or rose petals to the water, and as you soak, imagine yourself basking in the divine light of the Lions Gate energy. Use orange slices, and saffron or St Johns Wort to really align with the Leo energy. Let the water cleanse and rejuvenate your spirit, invoking Leo’s courage and boldness.
  6. Glamour Magick: Embrace your inner lioness and adorn yourself with items that make you feel confident and radiant. Dress in clothes that reflect your unique style and wear jewelry or accessories that resonate with your true essence. By embracing your physical presence, you align with the confident energy of Leo.
  7. Vision Board Collage: Instead of scripting, create a vision board collage using images and words from magazines or printed from the internet. As you curate your board, focus on the feelings and emotions each element evokes rather than scripting specific desires. Let the collage represent the essence of your dreams and intentions for this powerful period. Think about what your new expanders in life are, what you’re most proud of in your magick, and what you envision for yourself.

Lions Gate Tarot Spreads

The first spread you could try is first by a big shuffle, find the Strength card, then pull the five cards out behind it. Then from your favourite oracle deck, pull a card and you’ll have an eight card spread with the Strength at the centre. Lay them in a line, and create for yourself a story of your life from this Lions Gate Portal until the next.

The second spread you can do is a four-card spread, beginning with the eighth card as the first to be drawn and then every 8th card after. This will give you an overall message or theme for your tarot reading during this time of immense magickal energy, as a guide for your soul purpose, offering you advice during this magickal time.

The third spread for you I’d recommend is the one below 🙂

Whichever spread you choose to use, make sure that you really take in all the messages that come through.

The Lions Gate Portal is a period of immense magick and transformation, so take your time to reflect on yourself and meditate on each card you draw. Release any expectations or attachments you have about the outcome – trust that the universe will always show you what’s needed for your highest good, and have a bloody good time being with it all happening around you. Warmest wishes always xxx

Lions Gate 8/8 tarot spread layout & questions to ask

To begin, shuffle your tarot deck and draw a card for each position in the yearly tarot draw as shown in the below layout.

Finally, take some time to reflect on the questions that each card position represents and what message the tarot cards in that position might be trying to tell you. If you’re just starting to learn tarot, or if you’re still getting to know your deck, you may find my in-depth articles on the meanings of every tarot card helpful.

Card One: Support from Sirius Star/Spirit guides at this time

This card is generally one of a standalone separate message, before your reading begins. For my own reading I got the 8 of Cups, which suggested to me that doorways are opening up (lol at how literal this is for the portal) and it’s time to enjoy the opportunities that come my way.

Card Two: What do I need to leave behind for transformation?

This card can be a mindset, a process that doesn’t aid you, something that you worry about or even maybe indicating friendships or relationships that aren’t in your best interest. For my reading I got the 5 of Swords, which indicates pointless competitiveness. Who am I trying to beat? Who am I trying to outdo? I need to learn to leave behind what other people are doing in their journeys and focus on the road ahead. As I am in a current state of liminal grief and loss in my life, I feel this deeply – I need to just stay in my lane, and not worry about what I need to do or feel to be in this position right now, but focus on my own journey first to healing this grief and pain, so that I am a more present person for my partner and children right now. Not so much other family members or friends as a priority at the moment!

Card Three: What should I commit to bring with me as a priority for transmutation?

This is a card for “grab it and go” energy. It’s the first thing we pick up if our houses were burning down, and during transformations that are as powerful as Lions Gate Portals, it’s unsurprising to witness a drill sergeant moment of “Are you here? Are you alive? It’s time to move!” You don’t need to overthink this aspect, but the cards can always offer clarification if you wanted to pull more for this position. For my own reading, I didn’t need to – I’ve had the Knight of Swords follow me for a while. What I should commit to during this time of transmutation and spiritual evolution is determined action and allowing things to happen rather than resist.

Card Four: How will this Lions Gate Portal change me?

This placement may show you different personality or magickal preference changes. It may indicate a complete re-write of your sense of security, a new vocation or even relationships changes. For me, I pulled the 6 of Cups and again, with this liminal grief state I’m in, I’m equally touched and tearful by this pull. It’s showing that kindness will be my strength, to me and to others. Remembering where I came from, and who got me where I am, can absolutely be lovely to look back on in terms of where I’m going in the future – so I’m giving the old me a kiss goodnight, and staying focused on the future me who deserves all the hard work I’m putting in to support her.

Card Five: What's being activated within me?

The Lion’s Gate Portal activates our magick in different ways, and so we pull a card here to see a snippet into the future “me”, and what that looks like. For my reading I got the 3 of Cups, a card of friendship and support. Different people can bring you different things, and I’m in an 11th house Profection Year right now, so it’s important for me to voice up to those that I love that I do indeed love them, and may need them for support. As someone who is notorious for keeping things close to her chest (unless you ask, and then I’m an open honest book) what’s being activated is the progression within friendships and relationships for me, as to always remember to celebrate each other.

Card Six: How to align with what's changing within & prevent resistance?

This is like a “trigger warning, resistance is futile” moment in our tarot spread. We want ourselves to move forward, and it’s always interesting to hear what may be potential blocks for us. It’s not always easy to hear, and change isn’t easy to manage, but we get there. For my reading I got the 4 of Cups, a card for “not accepting what is offered, despite having a good thing going” which is interesting based on the last card I’d pulled. In terms of emotions, it can depict finding it hard to express emotion, but in terms of work & jobs being offered to me it can also indicate being stubborn on what I’ll allow – this card is showing me that really, I don’t have a choice here. If I’m being offered assistance in my relationships, it’s ok to accept it at this time, and may end up being quite necessary.

Card Seven: What's being activated within my life and community?

For this card we have a general theme of what is going to happen around others in our lives, and especially our immediate community. It may be how people are collectively feeling, or how folks are collectively working through things, or even just a vibe of who your community really are. For my own personal reading, I got the 10 of Swords, and it’s been a while since I’ve had this one. This card suggests specifically a lot of pain and sorrow, yes, and definitely uncertainty. Tens are usually the end of a cycle; this cycle is a painful process my people are going through, and what’s activating for them is the calm after the storm, the sun break on a new day, and grass greening after a drought. Whether this is to do with my family loss, or whether it’s to do with what is happening politically in the world right now, change is coming and we need to bear down together away from isolation or negative thinking. This specific ten can be a little bit dramatic or even at times feel like a betrayal, but death is a natural process so that other things can grow. What we need to look towards is what can we grow, instead of trying to revive something that is gone.

Card Eight: A card to support my abundance/manifestation wishes on this Lions Gate Portal.

This is your reminder that your magick is just that… magick. Any wishes you put out there for the Lions Gate, and any manifestations that you’re working on, this card will show up to support what you need to know about working on them. For my reading, I got the Sun, another sign indicating a sunnier new chapter. There’s something really comforting about receiving the Sun in a reading, that it fills you with a little bit of hope, even if you’re currently going through really tumultuous times. In this specific deck that I’ve used (Tarot Cards of Modern Goddesses) the Sun is Freyja, a fertility and love goddess yes but also – a warrior, a witch, and an incredible teacher of divination. She taught Seiðr to Odin. She headed up the valkyries. She is an absolute boss. She’s incredible creative energy without worrying so much about her journey, and she takes what she needs when she needs, so that victories always taste a little sweeter to her. So this has made me instantly go check out Freya in my astrology chart now to see whats happening there too!

What to do after this Lions Gate tarot reading

Always remember to take the time to listen and be still so that you can get their answers with clarity.

After you’ve finished a tarot reading, there are a few things you can do in order to reflect on the experience and integrate the insights you gained. Here are some suggestions:

Use a tarot journal to record your findings

Jotting down your thoughts in a tarot journal after reading can be helpful in a few ways. First, it can help you remember the details of your reading later on, such as how you felt at the moment and perhaps your first impressions of what a card meant.

Second, it can provide a space for you to process the information you’ve received and explore what it means for you. Third, it can be a way to keep track of your progress over time as you revisit your journal entries and reflect on your journey.

Take a picture of the cards

If you want to remember the position of the cards and what they meant in relation to your questions, take a picture of the spread. This will help you look back on the reading later and review the insights you received. Sometimes, clarity is better acquired after you’ve stepped back from the situation for a little while and had some time to process it.

Some people create Instagram accounts or Pinterest accounts specifically for this, and if you use any of our spreads please tag us @backyardbanshee if you feel comfortable!

Take some time to meditate and reflect

Immediately after a tarot reading, it’s important to take some time to sit with the insights you’ve received. This can be done through proper meditation, visualisation, or simply taking some time to reflect on the reading.

It can be helpful to think about what the messages from the cards mean for your life and how you can apply the advice that was given to you. That time can also be used to replenish your energy level and cleanse your tarot deck.

Get a second opinion from a close friend

If you have close friends who also happen to be tarot practitioners, it can be helpful to get their take on your reading. They may be able to offer additional insights or perspectives that you hadn’t considered before. This is also a good way to get feedback on your own interpretation of the cards.

Ensure to ask permission before just blindly sending your cards across in a message and saying “what does this mean to you?” as your friends may not have the energy or have a boundary with this sort of thing – manners cost nothing, and this is especially to note if they are a professional tarot reader who normally gets paid to interpret readings.

Layer your reading with more divination

Why not try adding astrology dice or a pendulum reading to your tarot session? Your intuition will guide you on how to best use these tools, but they can be helpful in providing more clarity around the messages from your tarot reading. We have lots of methods for you to utilise here on the website.

Do the same reading a month later

This is a great way to check in on your progress and see how far you’ve come. It can also be helpful in understanding the cyclical nature of our lives and how our current situation is likely to change over time. This can be especially useful if you’re struggling with a decision or trying to figure out which path to take as to offer suggestions, provide perspective and encourage your confidence to move forward.

At the end of the day, tarot readings are meant to be a helpful tool, not a replacement for your own intuition. The best way to use tarot is to combine the insights you receive with your own understanding of the situation. Trust your gut and follow your heart—the answers you’re looking for will come.

It is my hope that these tarot spreads on my website help you with clarity and articulate whatever is going on. Let me know what you think of this tarot spread in the comments below and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
