The most common types of tarot readings
Last Updated: March 28, 2022
Over my many years of experience reading tarot cards, I have come to learn that there are certain types of readings that are more popular than others. Indeed, people often come to me requesting specific readings that align with their needs at that particular time. Tarot readings tend to fall into one of three main categories: past, present, and future. One may want some help on how to overcome past events in their life, get some clarity on what’s currently happening in their lives, or get some insight into what the future may hold for them.
In this article, I will explain the most common types of reading requests I get in more detail and provide some tips on how to get the most out of your tarot reading experience.
Love tarot reading
Many of my clients come to me for tarot readings related to their love life. The reason why this type of reading is very popular is likely because love is such an important aspect of our lives. No one wishes to be alone and so we often seek guidance when it comes to our relationships. Whether we are single or we are in a relationship, we all want some much-needed clarity and insight.
Common questions my client ask me during a love tarot reading
- When will I meet a suitable lover?
- Is this the right time for me to look for love?
- I am feeling insecure about my current relationship, how can I best address my feelings?

Health tarot reading
Next up with have tarot readings related to health. Now, this type of readings are not as popular as love readings, but it’s still quite common. When it comes to health, people often want to know if their current health problems will improve. In some cases, people may also want to know they are going to experience any health problems in the near future. Tarot can only suggest ways to navigate your feelings regarding your health issue. Now, it’s important to understand that tarot is no replacement for professional medical advice. You must always follow your doctor’s advice.

Career tarot reading
Many people also come to me for readings about their careers. Oftentimes my clients are keen to know if they are going to get that promotion they have been working so hard for. Others want to know if they are going to be able to find a new role that is better suited for them. As our careers and jobs can be impactful on our lives, especially on the financial side of things, it’s no wonder that people often seek guidance from the tarot when it comes to this area.
Common questions my client ask me during a career tarot reading
- I hate my job, what does it look like if I stay there?
- What sort of promotions or opportunities should be coming up I can take advantage of?
- What should I do to smash this job interview?
Pregnancy tarot reading
This type of reading is quite popular with women who are hoping to conceive. The majority of my clients who come to me for this type of reading are keen to know if the time is right for them to try for a baby. Pregnancy readings can also be done for women who are already pregnant and they want some reassurance about their pregnancy and the birth of their child. Wanting to start a family is a powerful desire and so it’s no surprise that many women seek guidance from the tarot on this matter. Indeed, there is nothing stronger than the maternal instinct! That being said, it’s important to note that the tarot is not a substitute for professional medical advice and you should always consult your doctor if you have any concerns about your pregnancy.
Common questions my client ask me during a pregnancy tarot reading
- How can I help my anxiety and moods during pregnancy?
- What can I do to make my baby happier?
- How can I make my labour a better experience?
Celtic Cross tarot reading
A Celtic cross reading is an in-depth explorative tarot reading that can show you what influences your situation (including your behaviours) and recommended methods for moving forward with potential results. This type of spread is exciting for those who want a more in-depth reading and explore all avenues of questioning their situation. It builds on more than the three-card Past, Present, Future card readings and provides more clarity or guidance in relation to the other people involved, the atmosphere around you, how you really feel about this situation and other key questions you might not ask yourself normally if it weren’t for your tarot. Having the cards provide you with clarity and the introspection to answer this situation is the main motivation for a Celtic Cross reading.
Common questions my client ask me during a Celtic cross tarot reading
- What is influencing or happening now around me?
- How is best to move forward?
- What is the best attitude to adopt to bring positive change?
Past present future tarot reading
After career & business readings, this is my most requested service. An easy to follow three-card spread, this is usually for those who want to explore a little of their history (specifically addressing any “mistakes made” so that they can avoid repeating the same problem in the future) and a way to reflect on their behaviour in a quick, digestible fashion. This type of reading is intriguing to the majority of deck owners and is usually the choice of spread for those new to tarot so that they can see if there is a real “connection” to the deck or not. It doesn’t consume so much energy to perform and the layout is so straightforward you can apply it to other flows as well, such as Maiden Mother Crone.
This spread will highlight themes relating to the questions of how they’ve previously been affected, how they currently are being affected, and if things stay the same as they are now how they’ll flow in the future.
Common questions my client ask me during a past present future tarot reading
- How to let go of things from my past so I can move forward in my future?
- What traumas am I still processing now?
- I feel stuck and scattered. Show me more about who I was, who I am and who I will be?
As you can see, there are many different types of tarot readings that people often request. The most important thing to remember is to be open-minded and to go into your reading with a positive attitude. It’s important to keep in mind that tarot is not a replacement for professional medical, financial, or legal advice. You should never take a life-altering decision based on the outcome of a tarot reading.
No matter what type of tarot reading you are looking for, it’s important to remember that the cards can only provide guidance. Stay safe and always use your common sense!
