Card layout and questions to ask

To begin, shuffle your deck and draw a card for each position as shown in the layout below

Finally, take some time to reflect on the questions that each card position represents and what message the tarot cards in that position might be trying to tell you.

If you’re just starting to learn tarot, or if you’re still getting to know your deck, you may find my in-depth articles on the meanings of every tarot card helpful.

Card #1: Foundation of the Relationship

This first card represents the core or generally a basis of your relationship. It can indicate shared values, mutual interests, or the primary energy that brought you two together. It’s the bedrock upon which everything else is built.

Card Pull Example

Interpretation: This card signifies nurturing, abundance, and fertility. In the context of a relationship, it suggests a bond built on genuine care, growth, and mutual respect. It would show that you both nurture and take care of each other, but also that you provide opportunities for creativity or for projects to flourish together.

This card often points to disappointment, loss, or focusing on what’s missing. It might indicate that the relationship started from a place of grief or longing. It may even indicate that you guys met in a time of emotional changes, and so this is key to the story of how you found each other.

Card #2: Challenges & Obstacles

Every relationship faces challenges. This second card will shed light on current obstacles or potential future challenges that might need addressing. It can also indicate internal or external factors that might be causing strain, or articulate something that’s bothering either one of you.

Card Pull Example:

This card represents victory and public recognition. Even as a challenge, it might mean that the relationship faces external pressures to appear successful or meet certain standards. This could have been due to a successful promotion or a new job move that puts most of your relationships energy towards that right now, instead of each other. As long as the conversation is there that you guys are solid – then you don’t need to let something like “doing well at work” be the main struggle for you.

This card can signify deceit, betrayal, or going behind someone’s back. It suggests challenges rooted in trust issues or dishonesty. If there’s ever been a moment of trust lack, it’s going to be a marathon to build that back. It’s going to take time, energy, brutal honesty and a lot of effort on both parts. If this is something you want to work towards, then putting in the effort won’t feel like work.

Card #3: Strengths & Blessings

This card highlights the strengths of the relationship. It can point to mutual respect, shared experiences, trust, or other positive energies that bind you together. It’s a reminder of what’s going right.

Card Pull Example:

A card of emotional fulfillment, happiness, and family. It signifies a relationship filled with mutual love, understanding, and shared dreams. Hopefully if the ten of cups came up in the reading for you in this specific position, then it’ll reassure you, but if it doesn’t then I’d ask to see what’s up.

This card often points to painful endings or betrayal. As a strength, it might indicate resilience after enduring hardships together or learning from past mistakes. Ten’s are usually at the end of a cycle, and so to have this ten here would suggest that you both want to stop with the mindset that this relationship is “a bad idea”, but maybe you’re not sure how. If this card came up in this position on this spread, I would pull another card to see how you can move forward together, despite the pain or trauma that has happened between you.

Card #4: Hidden Influences

This card delves into the subconscious or unseen factors at play. It could be past experiences, hidden fears, or external influences that aren’t immediately obvious. It’s a peek behind the curtain.

Card Pull Example:

This card represents hope, inspiration, and spiritual guidance. Hidden blessings or universal forces might be guiding the relationship towards healing and growth. You’re either together because of shared goals, or you’re both working hard to be in the same direction, and it shows. There’s a universal support for this for you both, and this is the hidden boost you need.

A card of sudden upheaval and unexpected events. It suggests that there are unforeseen changes or disruptions influencing the relationship. If the big change has already happened, or you’re due a disruptive shift, this may have a larger impact on your relationship that you originally thought – so it’s time for a big conversation.

Card #5: Potential Future

Based on the current energies and patterns, this card offers a glimpse into the possible future of the relationship. It can indicate growth and deepening commitment, potential challenges ahead, or other pivotal events.

Card Pull Example:

A card of mutual attraction, partnership, and connection. It suggests a future filled with understanding, commitment, and deep emotional bonding. Make this a partnership, them your team-mate, and an opportunity to emotionally, intuitively and spiritually grow together.

This card signifies feeling trapped or restricted. It might indicate a future where one or both partners feel confined, misunderstood, or limited in the relationship. When it comes to any swords it’s always important to ensure that clear communication is a priority in your relationship, no matter your insecurities or doubts, and no matter the discomfort that comes from being honest together.

No matter what the cards say in this reading, however, nothing compares to clear communication, honesty, value and morals compatibility as well as sexual, emotional and intellectual compatability.

Yes, tarot absolutely can embody “Dump him, sis” energy, but you have full autonomy and the free will to navigate any queries in your life. Check in with yourself, your intentions, before making any important decisions, and I wish you all the best.

Until next time xox

What to do after this tarot reading

Always remember to take the time to listen and be still so that you can get their answers with clarity.

After you’ve finished a tarot reading, there are a few things you can do in order to reflect on the experience and integrate the insights you gained. Here are some suggestions:

Use a tarot journal to record your findings

Jotting down your thoughts in a tarot journal after reading can be helpful in a few ways. First, it can help you remember the details of your reading later on, such as how you felt at the moment and perhaps your first impressions of what a card meant.

Second, it can provide a space for you to process the information you’ve received and explore what it means for you. Third, it can be a way to keep track of your progress over time as you revisit your journal entries and reflect on your journey.

Take a picture of the cards

If you want to remember the position of the cards and what they meant in relation to your questions, take a picture of the spread. This will help you look back on the reading later and review the insights you received. Sometimes, clarity is better acquired after you’ve stepped back from the situation for a little while and had some time to process it.

Some people create Instagram accounts or Pinterest accounts specifically for this, and if you use any of our spreads please tag us @backyardbanshee if you feel comfortable!

Take some time to meditate and reflect

Immediately after a tarot reading, it’s important to take some time to sit with the insights you’ve received. This can be done through proper meditation, visualisation, or simply taking some time to reflect on the reading.

It can be helpful to think about what the messages from the cards mean for your life and how you can apply the advice that was given to you. That time can also be used to replenish your energy level and cleanse your tarot deck.

Get a second opinion from a close friend

If you have close friends who also happen to be tarot practitioners, it can be helpful to get their take on your reading. They may be able to offer additional insights or perspectives that you hadn’t considered before. This is also a good way to get feedback on your own interpretation of the cards.

Ensure to ask permission before just blindly sending your cards across in a message and saying “what does this mean to you?” as your friends may not have the energy or have a boundary with this sort of thing – manners cost nothing, and this is especially to note if they are a professional tarot reader who normally gets paid to interpret readings.

Do the same reading a few weeks later

This is a great way to check in on your progress and see how far you’ve come. It can also be helpful in understanding the cyclical nature of our lives and how our current situation is likely to change over time.

At the end of the day, tarot readings are meant to be a helpful tool, not a replacement for your own intuition. The best way to use tarot is to combine the insights you receive with your own understanding of the situation. Trust your gut and follow your heart—the answers you’re looking for will come.

It is my hope that these tarot spreads on my website help you with clarity and articulate whatever is going on. Let me know what you think of this tarot spread in the comments below and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
