How Do They Feel About You? Tarot Spread
Last Updated: October 2, 2023
We humans are deffo complex beings; always weaving intricate patterns of emotions, thoughts, and intentions throughout our lives. One of the most profound questions that many of us grapple with is, “How does this person truly feel about me?” Whether it’s about a friend, family member, romantic partner, or even a colleague, understanding their feelings can provide clarity, foster stronger connections, and ease our own anxieties.
Tarot, with its rich imagery and symbolism, offers a unique lens through which we can explore this very question. The cards don’t just predict the future; they reflect the swarm of energies and emotions that exist within and around us.
The tarot spread I am sharing with you today is specially designed to tap into these emotional nuances, revealing hidden sentiments, and offering insights that might not be evident on the surface.
But before delving into this, it’s essential to approach it with an open heart and mind. Cards are merely guides, and their interpretations can vary based on intuition and individual circumstances. Nothing ever replaces a genuine conversation with the other person, and you deserve the opportunity to try this, too. I have another spread (for difficult conversations) that may be of use after this one, if that’s the case!
Card layout and questions to ask
To begin, shuffle your deck and draw a card for each position as shown in the layout below
Finally, take some time to reflect on the questions that each card position represents and what message the tarot cards in that position might be trying to tell you.
Card #1: Their Current Feelings Towards You
This card represents the most immediate feelings the person has about you. It captures their current emotional state and general attitude towards your relationship.
Card Pull Example:
- Positive Card: The Sun
Interpretation: This card suggests they see you in a very positive light, filled with joy, optimism, and warmth. You bring a sense of happiness and clarity to their life, and they appreciate your presence.
- Negative Card: The Tower
Interpretation: Their feelings towards you are currently undergoing a sudden change, or that you are the last thing they’re thinking about right now. They might be experiencing unexpected upheavals or revelations in regard to your relationship, and essentially, this isn’t the priority for them right now. What I’d suggest is you take some time for focusing on you instead.
Card #2: The Foundation of Their Feelings
This card delves into the root cause or foundation of their emotions. It could signify past events, shared memories, or the core reason behind how they feel about you.
Card Pull Example:
- Positive Card: Ten of Cups
Interpretation: Their feelings for you are based on genuine happiness, emotional fulfillment, and a sense of communal joy. There’s a deep-seated emotional bond that has been cultivated over time. This is a really happy card, so … you’ve not got much to worry about here!
- Negative Card: Five of Pentacles
Interpretation: Their feelings might have been influenced by a period of hardship, feeling left out, or experiencing emotional or financial loss. It’s something that’s been paid for with great emotional or personal cost for this individual. This card suggests that they feel some form of lack or difficulty connected to you, and it’s definitely warranting a conversation to clarity or aid in bringing back some harmony to you both.
Card #3: External Influences:
This card highlights the external factors that might be influencing their feelings, like opinions of others, surrounding circumstances, or events outside of your relationship.
Card Pull Example:
- Positive Card: Three of Wands
Interpretation: Outside influences encourage growth and forward-looking optimism in your relationship. They are getting signals from their surroundings that inspire hope and expansion concerning you. They may even want to bring extra travel or business opportunities into it with you – you don’t just start a biz with anyone, or go away somewhere with someone, so this is indicative that they genuinely like to hang out with you and think you have a lot to offer.
- Negative Card: Seven of Swords
Interpretation: There might be some deception, sneaky behavior, withholding truths or gossip from external sources influencing their feelings about you. They may be hearing or sensing things that put them on guard. It’s worth looking at if you want to put in extra effort to solidify your space with them.
Card #4: What They Desire or Expect from the Relationship
This card reflects their hopes, desires, or expectations from your relationship. It can hint at what they are hoping to experience or achieve in the future with you.
Card Pull Example:
- Positive Card: The Empress
Interpretation: They desire nurture, abundance, and a deep emotional connection. They might also appreciate the comfort, care, and creativity that you bring into the relationship. You are the type of person for them that provides them with lots of opportunities!
- Negative Card: Eight of Cups
Interpretation: They might be thinking of walking away or seeking a deeper purpose. They feel there’s something missing in the relationship, or they need to find more emotional satisfaction elsewhere. If you want to help them dispel doubts, now is a good time to have a chat.
Card #5: The Potential Future of Your Relationship
Drawing from their current feelings and desires, this card provides insight into the possible future direction or evolution of your relationship based on their feelings.
Card Pull Example:
- Positive Card: The World
Interpretation: There’s potential for completion, fulfillment, and celebration. You provide each other with an opportunity to enjoy culture, travel and the general community, which is awesome. It may even indicate your passions for activism too. Both of you might come full circle and find harmony and wholeness together.
- Negative Card: Ten of Swords
Interpretation: There’s potential for betrayal, backstabbing, or a painful ending. They might feel that things are coming to an unfortunate conclusion or that there’s a significant obstacle to overcome. If you want to avoid a difficult decision, then difficult conversations need to happen for you both.

What to do after this tarot reading
Always remember to take the time to listen and be still so that you can get their answers with clarity.
After you’ve finished a tarot reading, there are a few things you can do in order to reflect on the experience and integrate the insights you gained. Here are some suggestions:
Use a tarot journal to record your findings
Jotting down your thoughts in a tarot journal after reading can be helpful in a few ways. First, it can help you remember the details of your reading later on, such as how you felt at the moment and perhaps your first impressions of what a card meant.
Second, it can provide a space for you to process the information you’ve received and explore what it means for you. Third, it can be a way to keep track of your progress over time as you revisit your journal entries and reflect on your journey.
Take a picture of the cards
If you want to remember the position of the cards and what they meant in relation to your questions, take a picture of the spread. This will help you look back on the reading later and review the insights you received. Sometimes, clarity is better acquired after you’ve stepped back from the situation for a little while and had some time to process it.

Take some time to meditate and reflect
Immediately after a tarot reading, it’s important to take some time to sit with the insights you’ve received. This can be done through proper meditation, visualisation, or simply taking some time to reflect on the reading.
It can be helpful to think about what the messages from the cards mean for your life and how you can apply the advice that was given to you. That time can also be used to replenish your energy level and cleanse your tarot deck.
Get a second opinion from a close friend
If you have close friends who also happen to be tarot practitioners, it can be helpful to get their take on your reading. They may be able to offer additional insights or perspectives that you hadn’t considered before. This is also a good way to get feedback on your own interpretation of the cards.
Ensure to ask permission before just blindly sending your cards across in a message and saying “what does this mean to you?” as your friends may not have the energy or have a boundary with this sort of thing – manners cost nothing, and this is especially to note if they are a professional tarot reader who normally gets paid to interpret readings.
Do the same reading a few weeks later
This is a great way to check in on your progress and see how far you’ve come. It can also be helpful in understanding the cyclical nature of our lives and how our current situation is likely to change over time.
At the end of the day, tarot readings are meant to be a helpful tool, not a replacement for your own intuition. The best way to use tarot is to combine the insights you receive with your own understanding of the situation. Trust your gut and follow your heart—the answers you’re looking for will come.
