Recognizing the Signs Apollo Is Calling You
Last Updated: September 21, 2023
Apollo is the Greek God of music, poetry, archery, truth, prophecy, plague, healing, and light. He is one of the most worshipped in the Greek pantheon because of his multifaceted persona and, let’s face it, Apollo is not very subtle with his signs.
Known by many names, (Hecebolus, Manticus, Phoebus, Acestor…) we also strongly associate him with his openness to being queer, his competitiveness, his love for his counterpart Artemis and his many favoured methods of divination.
It’s usually quite easy to guess when he is calling out to people, but to clear up any suspicions you could have, here are some clear indications that Apollo is near and or trying to communicate with you.
Tangible Signs From Apollo
1.) Sunsets & Rises
If you feel a strong connection to the sun for the first time in your life, it could be a sign that Apollo is attempting to communicate with you. Many ancient cultures looked to the sun as a source of guidance and direction because its rays have always been seen as the source of life, knowledge, healing, and hope. Apollo, being the God of light, truth, prophecy, and healing was also looked up to in this way by the people who worshipped him, and so he is often represented by the sun as it’s the most encompassing symbol of his influence.
Being drawn to the power and beauty of watching the sun set or rise, could be Apollo’s way of letting you know he is around. In these moments listen extra close for a message from Apollo, where he might be trying to share a little wisdom, bring some protection, or show you how to live in the moment a little more.
2.) Music & Lyrics
Music is a language that Apollo speaks fluently; connection to music on a deeper level than you ever have before, and randomly hearing or writing songs that include his sacred symbols in some way, can also be a sign that he is close by.
You might also find yourself waking up to a melody or song in your head that you haven’t heard in a long time and if lyrics get stuck on a loop in your head, make sure to look them up and find the message because that is another way that Apollo tries to communicate with you. He really activates the clairaudience abilities in his followers, and the people he chooses to interact with, and inspires musical talents.
3.) Art & Sciences
Apollo has always been a symbol of creativity and knowledge. Accompanied by the Muses, he is always inspiring mankind to tap into our creativity to expand our knowledge, allowing us to uncover new truths about the world and ourselves. This is why Apollo is known to send messages through art and science as well as music and lyrics, encouraging those who follow him to pursue their passions and unlock their ultimate potential. If you experience sudden bursts of energetic creativity, just know that Apollo likes to inspire thoughts and ideas in those who choose to reach out to him or answer his call.
If you’re catching yourself idly doodling or drawing his sacred signs and symbols, or suddenly feeling more creative, artistic, and confident than ever before, you can assume that Apollo might be trying to influence you at least a little bit. As a devotee to Apollo, I like to encourage people who work with him to keep themselves grounded when working with his creative energy to avoid any burnout.
4.) Sacred Signs & Animals
Apollo is with a select few different plants and animals. Seeing his sacred animals in unusual places or in synchronistic ways can be a sign that Apollo is near or is trying to get your attention. His sacred animals include but are not limited to ravens, crows, hawks, swans, cicadas, mice, and snakes. Most of his symbols can be linked to a specific story in his mythology, so when you’re seeing recurring symbols associated with Apollo look up their significance and see if the mythology resonates, or holds a message for you in some way.
The raven, hawk, and crows are also especially important to Apollo because they act as his eyes and ears when he is not able to be present. If you find yourself being consistently watched or stalked by one, have an up close and weird experience with one, or dream of one of these birds, it is probably Apollo checking in on you or bringing you a message. Pay attention!
5.) Divination
Apollo is well known in history for being the God who provided many life and world-changing prophecies to his oracles, especially in Delphi. He is a God of truth and prophecy, and he uses divination to provide insight, clarity, and guidance to those who ask for it. Sudden interest in divination, such as oracle, tarot, scrying, or charm casting can be a sign that Apollo is wanting to connect with you in a more direct way.
Also, please know that learning to communicate with a deity through a divination tool can take time and your success relies on your ability to cultivate trust in your own intuition through sceptical trial and error. So this is a gentle reminder to be patient with yourself as you learn.
Sacred Signs & Symbols In Depth from Apollo
Understanding Apollo’s sacred signs and symbols is one of the first steps to being able to identify if he is present in your life. Take a look at some of his associations and you might discover other ways that he has reached out to you in the past.
- Lyre – Created by Hermes and traded with Apollo, the lyre is one of Apollo’s most prized possessions. Listening to music from a lyre, performing with a lyre, or even art depictions of a lyre are great ways to honor Apollo.
- Laurel – The laurel was sacred to Apollo because it was believed to have healing powers. It was associated with him because he was the God of healing, music, and the sun. The leaves of the laurel were also used to make crowns for victorious athletes and poets, which honored Apollo’s influence in these areas. As a form of divination, daphnomancy is a popular method from modern witches and a fantastic way to connect with yourself whilst also honoring Apollo.
- The Sun and 4 of Swords Tarot Card – These cards usually reoccur in readings if he is trying to get in touch with you or send you a message.
- Raven & Crow – Black birds are sacred to Apollo and are often used as his eyes and ears when he isn’t able to be present. Honor the black birds that you see by acknowledging Apollo whenever you encounter one.
- Hawk – The hawk is sacred to the God Apollo because it represents the sun and his power over the sky. Seeing a hawk can be a sign of Apollo’s more protective nature or a need to find more clarity by seeking higher perspectives.
- Mice – According to mythology, when Apollo was unhappy he would send hordes of mice to cause destruction, and then kill them when whatever wrongdoing had been corrected by the people.
- Wolf – It is believed that to escape and hide from the wrath of Hera, Apollo’s mother Leto disguised herself as a she-wolf and so Artemis and Apollo are both associated with the protection and strength of the wolf.
- Dolphin – Apollo either took the guise of a Dolphin or rode a Dolphin to an island that was inhabited by Pytho, and when he defeated Pytho the island was named Delphi.
- Bow & Arrow – Apollo asked Hephaestus to make him an archery set to defeat the snake that was being sent to terrorize his mother, Leto. He was so talented with the bow and arrow that he became known as the God of archery.
- Hyacinth – Apollo loved a man named Hyacinth who was tragically killed in a disk-throwing accident, and to honor his life, Apollo turned him into the Hyacinth flower.
- Swan – It is said that on the day Apollo was born, seven sacred swans flew around the island seven times and since then, there have been many artistic depictions of Apollo riding on the back of a swan. Swans are also beautiful singers and have been known to predict their own deaths.
Repeatedly seeing the number 7 is also a sign that Apollo is trying to get your attention. A great way to acknowledge him when he sends this number on repeat is to set up a ritual for him and also celebrate him on the 7th of every month which is what the ancient Greeks did. Apollo appreciated adoration for the gifts he has given to people and will show his appreciation by sending you many blessings and good fortune.
What To Do When He Reaches Out
1.) Learn about the Delphic Maxims. These are a list of statements with advice on how to live a virtuous life, and they are believed to have been delivered by the oracles of Apollo and come directly from him. Some of the most well-known maxims are, “know thyself”, “nothing in excess”, and “a pledge brings trouble” or in other words, “make no promises”.
2.) Make him a playlist for him of music that is creative, inspiring, and uplifting to you. You can use this playlist to connect with him on a deeper level or when you’re calling him into your space.
3.) Divine and work on developing your clairaudience or other psychic abilities so that you can communicate with him more directly. Establish a consistent way of keeping yourself grounded and allow the relationship to develop in its own time and its own way. Pick up a tarot or oracle deck and learn it in your own time.
Everyone’s experience and relationship with Apollo can be different so keep that in mind when trying to discern if Apollo is calling out to you. There is also nothing holding you back from making a connection with Apollo if he isn’t currently trying to reach out to you. It isn’t always a “pick me” game. There are many ways to respectfully approach the Gods if you wish to learn more about them. Be open, sincere, and always keep yourself grounded and protected.
Remember that you are empowered by your choices and may you find many blessings on your current path. Until next time, @Meta.Mystics x
