Signs Hera Is Reaching Out And Calling You

Last Updated: December 4, 2023

Hera is an Olympian goddess associated with marriage, nobility, women who have been wronged and genuinely the most feminine leading prominent figure in ancient Greek mythology. She is the wife of Zeus, and queen of all gods. Hera being a goddess, had special privileges and powers, as well as direct communication with other Olympian deities, titans, nymphs and mortals.

In ancient greek mythology, beautiful cow-eyed Hera is often depicted as a vengeful and jealous goddess. This is mainly due to her husband’s many infidelities and resulting children born out of wedlock, which in modern living if our partners were repeatedly betraying us and deceiving us, we too would feel some kind of way.

As an Empress/Ruler archetype, there will always be light and shadow aspects balancing morality, traditions and power. Hera was known for her strength and ferocity, but also her compassion and love for children – especially her own. Whilst initially struggling with her connection to her son Hephaestus, he later proved to be an amazing asset to the Olympian gods, making her proud of his triumphs over challenges. She is often seen as the guardian of women, protecting them from harm and advocating for their rights, such as with her love for her priestess Io.

In today’s modern world, we can see Hera’s influence in many powerful female figures who are leaders in their respective fields – politics, business, entertainment, and we can see her influence in the fight for women’s rights and equality. Hera’s legacy lives on through these strong and influential women, inspiring others to also stand up for what they believe in and strive for greatness.

Hera is not just a symbol of power and femininity, but she is also a reminder of the importance of marriage and family. Despite Zeus’ infidelities, Hera remained devoted to her marriage and her family, showing us the value of commitment and loyalty. In today’s society where relationships are sometimes seen as disposable, Hera’s unwavering devotion serves as a reminder to cherish and honor our partnerships, and to work with them instead of against them.

She was also most definitely a goddess of transformation; Galinthias, Tiresias, Io, Echo and many more all experienced a transformation of their physical form, either as a punishment or as an act of mercy. For herself, too, she used her magick to shapeshift into animals she held sacred, as well as giving mortals the ability to transform. Transformation is a constant theme in life, and Hera inadvertently teaches us that it can be used for both good and bad, but ultimately it is up to us how we handle the changes.

Hera holds many lessons for us to learn from in today’s modern world – from strength and compassion, to commitment and transformation. She continues to be a revered figure in mythology and will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who look up to her as a symbol of power, femininity, and strength. As long as there are women fighting for their rights and standing up against inequality and disloyalty, Hera’s legacy will live on. But let’s look into the different ways she may be reaching out to you personally…

Dreams

Hera may communicate with you through your dreams, especially if the dreams involve shapeshifting, disloyalty in marriage, or noble pursuits. If any of these symbols appear in your dreams, it could be a sign that Hera is trying to communicate with you. Pay attention to the details and emotions in your dreams, as they could provide valuable insights into what she is trying to convey. The sorts of dreams people tend to have with Hera, with their symbolism explained here, are as some of the following (yet not a complete list):

  • Shapeshifting: experiencing transformation into animals or objects, such as a bird, snake or tree. This could mean you are going through a period of change in your life, whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual.
  • Disloyalty in Marriage, partnerships or friendships: dreams involving cheating, betrayal and infidelity either by you or towards you. Witnessing betrayal or infidelity in a dream could symbolize trust issues in your relationship. It may be time to address any underlying problems or insecurities, and communicate openly with your partner.
  • Power: dreams with themes of empowerment, leadership and justice. Being put into a leadership role in a dream could mean you have the potential to become a strong and influential figure in your waking life. It could also be a reminder to use your power for good, rather than for selfish purposes.
  • Divorce or Widowhood: One of Hera’s epithets was Chera, which meant “widow”. Temenus, who raised her at Stymphalus in Arcadia, dedicated three temple sanctuaries to her in her three forms; Pais (child) Teleia (fulfilled) and Khera “widowed” or “separated” – all show her stages of life. If you’re dreaming of divorce or being widowed, it could be a message to reflect on your current state of relationships and whether they are fulfilling or need to end.
  • Getting Married: dreams of getting married could symbolize your desire for a committed and stable relationship. It could also represent a merging of two aspects of yourself, such as balancing feminine and masculine energies. She could be here for you during this transition period of a Maiden/Bachelor to
  • Being Pinned Down or Stuck To A Chair: dreams where you are unable to move or escape could be a sign of feeling trapped in your waking life. This could be related to your career, relationship or other personal issues. It may be time to reevaluate your current situation and make necessary changes. Hera was once pinned to a throne, and so may be reaching out to you in this way to show solidarity.
  • Pregnancy: dreams involving pregnancy may symbolize new beginnings or the nurturing aspect of oneself. It could also be a sign from Hera to pay attention to your health and well-being.

Hera may show up with these themes for you as a guide, from a place of support, much like having a matriarch’s advice has helped generations for many years previously. If you are experiencing any of these dreams, take some time to reflect and see if there are any messages that Hera may be trying to send to you through them. It could be an opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery.

Synchronicities

People might experience unusual or meaningful coincidences that they associate with Hera’s presence. This might be reoccurring incidents of the following, yet are not limited to:

  • Encounters with the Empress tarot card: The Empress links perfectly with Hera as the Queen of the Gods, as well as the themes of motherhood and partnership to the Emperor (Zeus). Seeing this card repeatedly may signify that Hera is trying to send you a message or guide you in your life.
  • Encountering peacocks: Peacocks are often associated with Hera, as they are her sacred animal. Seeing them frequently could be a sign of her presence or a reminder to embrace your inner beauty and confidence. It may be imagery, in design, or the actual animal you repeatedly encounter.

  • Pathetic fallacy environment: If you have noticed the weather “feels” exactly how you are, especially when it comes to turbulent moments in relationships or in relation to the tone of a management position, for example, and noticably so – then this may be a very specific nod.
  • Hearing the name “Hera”: This may seem obvious, but sometimes we miss the signs that are right in front of us. If you find yourself constantly hearing the name “Hera”, whether it’s in a conversation, on TV or in a book, it could be a sign that she is trying to get your attention.

Being Called To Hera’s Spaces

You may even feel called to a specific place, or have travelled there recently and noticed some synchronicities or dreams after your visit. These spaces are dedicated to Hera and so may have a special connection to her, such as:

  • Regions including Arcadia, Attica, Corinthia, Elis, Sikyonia all have associations with Hera (look in to their individual histories and establishments).

(NB: This island may also be Samos, and the Heraion there where Io was kept).
  • Lydia: A Temple of Hera was in Sardis, and many feasts and celebrations were happening in joy and mirth, according to Plutarch.
  • Iberia: The Pillars of Herakles (Glory of Hera) are said to be her space, and in the story of Perseus (and many others) who travel for glory near these points are in Hera’s space and Hera’s Garden, associated by Strabo and Artemidoros.
  • Egypt: Not just the situation with Io, Isis and Zeus, but Egypt had a dedicated public space in Alexandria according to Herodotus and Suidas.
  • Rome: There is a dedicated grove to Hera in Lavinium, where barley cakes are offered and a serpent guides a sacred tree according to Aelian.

These places were all known to worship and honor Hera, and may still hold her energy today. If you find yourself drawn to visit these regions or have recently visited, pay attention to any messages or signs she may be trying to send you. You could also take some time to connect with her in these sacred spaces through meditation or offerings.

Sensing her presence

Some individuals report feeling a sense of presence or energy when Hera is near, such as feeling a gentle breeze or seeing flashes of light. Others may have an overwhelming feeling of protection or comfort, as if someone is watching over them. Trust your intuition and pay attention to any physical sensations that may occur when you think about Hera. Here are some ways that Hera’s presence might be described as:

  • Power: Hera is the Queen of the Gods and embodies power, strength and authority. Her presence may be felt as a surge of energy or confidence.
  • Femininity: As the goddess of marriage and childbirth, Hera represents femininity and motherhood. Her presence may be sensed as a feeling of nurturance or compassion.

It’s important to remember that these are just a few examples and that everyone’s experience is unique. Some people may not experience any of these sensations, while others may have a completely different experience. It’s probably best to do further research and ask your community of witches of their experiences locally/regionally.

Seeing symbols

People might start noticing symbols associated with Hera, such as cows, pomegranates, or aegis (shield). These symbols may appear in unexpected places, such as on random objects or in artwork. It’s important to pay attention to these symbols and reflect on how they may relate to your own personal experiences or associations with Hera. • Cuckoo birds: These birds are often associated with Hera, as they were said to be her sacred animal.

  • Lilies: Lilies are a flower that is often associated with Hera and may represent her role as the goddess of marriage and fertility.
  • Peacocks feathers: As mentioned before, peacocks are also commonly associated with Hera and may symbolize her, especially as she is associated with Argus and with a chariot pulled by this gorgeous bird.
  • Golden Apples: These apples are said to be the sacred fruit of Hera and are often depicted in art as a symbol of her. She had a sacred tree guarded by the Hesperides in the Gardens of Hera.
  • Lotuses: The lotus flower is often associated with Hera and symbolizes her as a divine feminine figure. Shes been depicted in artwork with a lotus staff
  • Disconnect from children: Whilst not the most positive imagery, if you’re seeing a lot of symbolism and storylines surrounding a mother’s disconnect with her children, it could be Hera sharing that she too struggled with what may have been postpartum depression. This is something that does happen in nature, so it doesn’t necessarily have to be specifically a human situation.
